Something Wicked My Way Came

What I'm reading right now: The Hero of Ages by Brandon Sanderson

I finished The Well of Ascension and have moved on to The Hero of Ages.  Just for fun I included the UK cover. I like this cover a lot although my favorite of the UK covers is The Final Empire. It manages to be whimsical with an undercurrent of wariness.

I'm enjoying this book almost as much as the first. I'm eager to see how he ties all this together and what becomes of these characters I've brought into my life before they leave me forever. Fortunately, in November a new Mistborn/Steampunk novel will be released, Mistborn: The Alloy of Law; so perhaps my post-series-let down will not be so great.

Recently, I attended a writers' conference called LDStorymakers. After the conference they have an awards banquet called The Whitney Awards. Brandon's The Way of Kings won in the best Speculative Fiction category and tied with Dan Wells's Mr. Monster for Novel of the Year. The best part was the chance to meet these authors, winners and nominees, after the banquet. I can say that they were all gracious and congenial to a fanboy like me.

SOMETHING WICKED MY WAY CAME
Back in August of 2010, Bloody Parchement, the literary component to the annual South African HorrorFest, sponsored a short story contest. The winners will be compiled into an online anthology (possibly a hard copy as well) and Something Wicked magazine is publishing the top five stories over the course of the next two weeks. My story is the first to post and is currently on the home page. You can find a direct link here.

In memoriam of my father-in-law, Donald Gates Kilpatrick, I am participating in MS Harmons Best Dam Bike Ride 2011. Please join me in supporting the National MS Society by making a donation at this link. Imagine a world free of MS.

So excited about your story hitting the big time. And very cool about the dam bike ride. :)
